1D-3D coupled simulation method of hydraulic transients in ultra-long hydraulic systems based on OpenFOAM

چکیده
Transients in hydraulic systems are normally simulated by one-dimensional (1D) method of characteristics (MOC). When local three-dimensional (3D) flow patterns have crucial impacts on the system characteristics, 3D computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation should be incorporated. Since simulating an entire long CFD is unrealistic, we proposed several 1D-3D coupled methods. However, methods difficult to apply and popularise because most codes inaccessible implementation details unclear. Consequently, utilised open source toolbox OpenFOAM develop a proved its feasibility applying it analysing practical problems. This paper describes implementations water compressibility, coupling, gas-liquid simulation, dynamic mesh; shows their verifications accuracy benchmark cases; demonstrates simulations closing opening processes 194 km conveyance system. The gate chamber maximum/minimum head envelopes along tunnels, which support design optimisation project, presented. It shown that computationally efficient accurate, can applied transient analyses for systems, pumped-storage power stations, etc.

Original scientific paper In this work a new approach considering numerical modelling of waterhammer dissipation and attenuation is proposed. The classical Allievi liquid flow model has been extended with the Brunone unsteady friction model which includes separation of the local and convective unsteady friction factor. A widely-adopted approach in solving this model is treatment of the unsteady...

This research adopts the quasi three-dimensional hydraulic design method for the impeller of high specific speed mixed-flow pump to achieve the purpose of verifying the hydraulic design method and improving hydraulic performance. Based on the two families of stream surface theory, the direct problem is completed when the meridional flow field of impeller is obtained by employing iterative calcu...

متن کاملVisual Simulation of Hydraulic Erosion
A new algorithm for hydraulic terrain erosion is introduced. The main goal of the paper is to provide a technique which is inspired by physics and which allows for high level of control. We divided the erosion process into four independent steps that can be applied independently to achieve high level of realism. The erosion algorithm is based on the ability of water to dissolve material that is...
متن کاملSimulating Fully 3D Hydraulic Fracturing
1.0 Introduction Hydraulic fracturing, the process of initiation and propagation of a crack by pumping fluid at relatively high flow rates and pressures, is one of several techniques for creating cracks in rock. Fractures in the earth's crust are desired for a variety of reasons, including enhanced oil and gas recovery, re-injection of drilling or other environmentally sensitive wastes, measure...
